Draw the subject very lightly with a pastel pencil and charcoal stick. Note that the building is drawn in a different style from the gardens below. Draw the building accurately, using a ruler to maintain straight edges and the correct positioning of the windows and chimneys. Draw the garden more loosely.

Block in the basic colors, remembering not to press on the pastel, as you need just a light coating at this stage. Leave a lot of the background surface showing through.

Block in the shapes of the trees, highlight the grasses and roof tiles, and add the walls of the building.
